By contract with The Environment Agency of Iceland Strytan divecenter – Erlendur Bogason are now the official protectors and are responsible for the protection of Strytan and Arnarnesstrytan, which are located at the bottom of Eyjafjordur. These underwater wonders are the first underwater protected areas in Iceland. You are allowed to dive on your own at Strytan and Arnarnesstrytan but first you have to contact Erlendur Bogason and get education about the area from him and how to act around these extraordinary and rare underwater wonders.
The Environment Agency of Iceland, under the auspices of the Ministry for the Environment, mandates 31 plants protected according to the nature conservation act. The contract is according to the nature conservation act no. 44/1999, article 30.
